Revealed: Jetstar names Australia’s low fares capitals

Summary

Jetstar has analysed data over the past year and ranked the top postcodes from across the country based on the number of fares purchased for under $100.

Jetstar has today revealed for the first time which Australian cities are buying the most bargain fares, with Launceston in Tasmania leading the way.

Jetstar has analysed data over the past year and ranked the top postcodes from across the country based on the number of fares purchased for under $100.

Launceston took out top spot with local residents purchasing more than 56,000 seats for less than $100.

Gold Coast and Cairns residents came in second and third, with more than 51,000 and 32,000 sub-$100 fares purchased respectively.

Jetstar Australia CEO Dean Salter said last year set the record for low fares sold with two thirds of all Jetstar fares selling for under $100.

“Our low fares make it possible for people to more places, more often,” Mr Salter said.

“The people of Launceston are Australia’s best bargain hunters when it comes to finding low fares.

“It’s not just locals benefitting, with people travelling from the major capital cities to Launceston, Gold Coast and Cairns for their holidays also snapping up great low fares.

Other key findings:

  • Melbourne, Werribee, Sydney, Mackay, Geelong, Ballina and Carrara rounded out the top 10.
  • Sydney was the top holiday destination for the majority of top 10 suburbs.
  • Capital cities were the top destination for the top bargain-savvy suburbs, with the exception of North Bondi residents who most wanted to travel to the Gold Coast.
  • Multiple residential suburbs surrounding Gold Coast, Ballina and Avalon airports featured in the top 20 list.

Mr Salter said travellers were becoming more savvy in securing the best price.

“Our customers know the best way to secure a bargain, whether it’s booking flights early, signing up for our sale alerts or joining Club Jetstar for exclusive offers,” he said.

Jetstar has recently reached the milestone of 100,000 Club Jetstar members and its celebrating by putting 100,000 seats on sale – exclusively for members of Club Jetstar- from 12pm-11.59pm AEDT next Wednesday 8th November 2017, unless sold out prior.
