Jetstar creates new low fares link between WA and China
- New low fares connection between Perth and a Chinese Province of 8 million people
- Creates opportunities for increased Chinese tourism to Western Australia
- Provides Western Australians with access to China’s “Hawaii of the East”
Perth is set to welcome more Chinese tourists from the island of Hainan with the announcement of a new four times weekly service from Haikou to Perth (via Singapore).
Haikou, the closest Chinese port to Perth, is the capital of Hainan Province, home to more than eight million people.
Jetstar, which has operated low fare services to Haikou from Singapore since 2009, is working with the Hainan Provincial Government to market the one stop, through service to Perth.
Paul Daff, Acting CEO, Jetstar Asia said the new link would help capitalise on the huge opportunity that Chinese tourism offers to the Australian tourism market.
“Working with partners to create new connections and encouraging new travel demand through low fares is key to Jetstar’s strategy to growing in Asia”, Daff said.
“China’s appetite for international air travel keeps rising as millions more Chinese consumers move into the middle class and have more disposable income.”
Tourism Western Australia’s CEO Stephanie Buckland said the new service had the potential to boost travel numbers to WA from its fastest growing source market*.
“With strong growth in tourist arrivals and expenditure, China is becoming an important tourism market for WA and gaining greater air access will enable even more visitors to experience our extraordinary State,” she said.
The Hainan Province’s Deputy Secretary General Luo Shixiang said Hainan was developing into an international tourism destination, with the province committed to making it a holiday spot for domestic and international travellers.
“The new route would allow Australian holiday makers convenient access to Hainan, which is of China’s premier leisure destinations, and often referred to as “the Hawaii of the East”.
“With beaches, lush tropical rainforest, hot springs, world class golf resorts and the unique Chinese culture, Haikou, already one of China’s most popular tourism destinations, is now easily accessible to West Australians.
“Hainan is heavily investing in making the island a true international tourism destination by creating world class facilities that complement its amazing natural surrounds,” added Luo.
