Direct flights between Adelaide and Hobart take off!

Jetstar’s new flights linking Adelaide and Hobart take off today providing locals and tourists with the only direct service between the two cities, with demand already exceeding expectations.

Up to 55,000 customers will travel each year on the direct flights, which will operate three times per week.

Jetstar Group Chief Commercial Officer, Catriona Larritt, said the flights are a win for customers wanting to travel between the two cities, with travel times reduced by at least 3 hours from the previous connecting options.

“Today we begin operating the only direct flights between Hobart and Adelaide, with the inaugural flights almost full.

“With both cities experiencing record tourism numbers we expect significant demand for these flights. Already over 15,000 customers have already purchased low-fares between these two cities.

“Both cities have a lot to offer as cultural capitals, hosting a great deal of music events, wine festivals and sporting events.”

Premier of Tasmania, Will Hodgman, said “Jetstar are continuing to show great confidence in Tasmania and I acknowledge the hard work of the Hobart and Adelaide airports, as well as Tourism Tasmania and the South Australian Tourism Commission for working together to secure this new air link.”

Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Mark Young, said: “South Australians will now be able to easily access Hobart both for business and to enjoy the spectacular sights in and around Tasmania’s capital city,” Mr Young said.

“The Adelaide-Hobart route has been our largest unserved market for some time. We know there is significant demand from customers to fly direct rather than via Sydney or Melbourne.”, he added.

Jetstar operates close to 100 weekly flights out of Adelaide to 11 destinations in Australia including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Perth, as well as international flights to Bali.

Jetstar operates more flights to and from Tasmania than any other airline with 170 weekly services, 65 of those from Hobart. Combined with the Qantas Group we serve 3 destinations in Tasmania connecting our customers to the groups’ extensive domestic and international network.

The lowest fares between Adelaide and Hobart currently available on Jetstar.com are $95 one way.
