Jetstar welcomes new domestic terminal at Melbourne Airport
Jetstar has today welcomed Australia Pacific Airports Melbourne’s announcement that the airline will be the anchor tenant in Melbourne Airport’s new domestic terminal, Terminal 4 (T4).
Jetstar Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said the development of T4 would allow the low fares airline to continue offering more flights in and out of Melbourne
“As anchor tenant for Terminal 4, we’re pleased to partner with Melbourne Airport in this development and we look forward to launching operations from the new terminal in 2015,” Ms Hrdlicka said.
“Jetstar is Australia’s leading low fares airline and Melbourne Airport is one of our key Jetstar Group hubs. We’ve seen double digit passenger growth in and out of the port over the past few years.
“This investment and long term agreement will provide us with the airport infrastructure we need to sustain our capacity growth in and out of Melbourne into the future.”
The new terminal will be located at the southern end of the airport and, once completed, will be fully integrated under the one roof with the existing terminals.
This enables Jetstar customers to freely walk between domestic and international terminals within minutes while protected from the elements.
Ms Hrdlicka said it was important that the T4 design provided a state-of-the-art airport experience for Jetstar customers.
“At Jetstar we aim to make low fares travel hassle free and enjoyable for all our customers and we know airport design has a big part to play in this,” Ms Hrdlicka said.
“The development of T4 will help us deliver a seamless travel experience for our customers from the time they enter the airport precinct.
“The design incorporates a designated space for our self-service kiosks and bag drop facilities located on the ground floor within close proximity to the transport zone.
“On the upper floor, Jetstar customers will enjoy a bright and spacious departure lounge with a wide range of food and retail outlets.”
The T4 development is a part of Melbourne Airport’s Southern Precinct Program (SPP) incorporating landside and airside infrastructure which has the potential to service 17 new aircraft parking positions and more than 10 million passengers per annum once completed.
In the financial year ended June 2013, Jetstar carried more than 5.5 million passengers through Melbourne Airport.
The Jetstar Group is one of Asia Pacific’s fastest growing airline brands with one of the most extensive ranges of destinations in the region. It is made up of Jetstar Airways (subsidiary of the Qantas Group) in Australia and New Zealand, Jetstar Asia in Singapore, Jetstar Pacific in Vietnam, and Jetstar Japan in Japan. Jetstar branded carriers operate up to 4,000 flights a week to more than 70 destinations across Asia Pacific. The Jetstar Group carried more than 29 million passengers in financial year 2015.
